Over the past 40 years Alpha has grown from a small offset litho printer into an innovative and forward-thinking company operating from a large-scale purpose built factory close to the M5.
Established in 1979 by current Chairman Jeff Williams, Alpha grew throughout the eighties, specialising in offset litho work and developed an enviable reputation for quality and reliability.
1988 saw the development of the firm’s colour printing services and Alpha rapidly became known for its expertise; continuously surpassing the expectations of their clients. By the early 1990s Alpha’s success meant they outgrew their original premises, and May 2001 saw Alpha move to purpose-built premises in Quedgeley and over the next few years came further expansion to house the growing print management and fulfillment services, including the colossal addition of greeting cards back in 2002.
Over this time the company built up a core staff of experienced and dedicated professionals. Some thirty years later, many are still part of the Alpha family, resulting in over 300 years of combined specialist print experience!
As all this was taking place, Jeff’s daughter Amy had time to become fully-immersed in the world of print. From spending summer holidays getting experience in all areas of the business (and we mean everything from running machines and accounts to packing boxes and making everyone breakfast!) Amy ventured off to get herself a First Class Honours Degree in Accountancy before officially joining the company in 2017 and becoming Managing Director in 2019. Having grown up with the team, everyone at Alpha feels very much like an extended family and Amy is very excited to carry on the legacy of this highly-regarded family business.
With a broad client base including advertising agencies, local authorities and educational institutions, Alpha Colour is now one of Gloucestershire’s leading printers. The factory covers over 24,000 square feet, all handily accessible from junction 12 of the M5.
